Can you believe he's 12?!?

I still can't believe that Dexter is 12. Am I old enough to have a 12 year old. Obviously, the answer is yes, but I sure don't feel like I'm responsible enough. Maybe someday I'll feel like I know what I'm doing, but I'm not holding my breath!

Yeast Rising

One of our latest chemistry experiments was to answer the question: Can molecules be broken into smaller molecules? We discussed how sugar is broken down into ethyl alcohol and carbon dioxide molecules.

The kids had a blast putting sugar in water and then adding yeast and seeing it rise. My goal for this year is to develop a love for chemistry (or at least a tolerance for). When I hear the word, "chemistry," I remember my high school chemistry teacher telling me not to chew gum in class! I hope my kids learn more than I do.

I sure do love teaching my kids!

Books of the Old Testament

video

During Living Room Time each day, we have been learning the books of the Book of Mormon and Bible. The kids learned the books of the Book of Mormon fairly quickly, so I thought we'd try something harder (like the books of the Old Testament). I didn't even know these. To help us learn faster, we learned the song out of the Primary Songbook (page 114 for those interested). I was just so impressed, I had to share!

Edited: OK, so the video is not working right, but just imagine my kids all singing ALL the books of the Old Testament!

Enjoying the Fall!

Since fall weather is finally here, we have taken advantage of some of the beauty that only fall has to offer.
Jumping in leaves...

Going for a walk down the lane...

And of course, stick fighting!

We just love fall!
