A Rest for the Weary

Todd and I were sitting on the front step the other night after the kids had gone to bed and we suddenly heard a loud thump on the roof of our car. After investigation we realized that a moth had hit the street light above and fell. It laid there for a few seconds and tried to fly again only to land in the street. After one more try, it had had enough and just lay on the street waiting for some car to take it out of its misery. Todd with his soft heart rescued it and gave it a safe spot to rest outside our front door. The thing was huge--about 3 inches from wing tip to wing tip. I never knew moths could get that big, especially here.

Coolest thing ever!

We were coming home from swim lessons last week and we saw this hot air balloon in the sky. As we headed for home, we noticed that it kept decending, getting closer and closer to the fields of corn and soybeans. We decided to follow it, and finally pulled over and took this picture. We were so excited when it actually landed IN the soybean field we were parked next to. The balloon was literally 50 yards from us. It managed to make its way to the middle of the road, but could go no farther. It was out of fuel. They got permission from the homeowner across the street to land and deflat there, so all but one person jumped out of the basket and they pulled it off the road. We were able to see them pull the air out. It was really cool! One of the advantages of living in the middle of no where, I guess!

Someone to look up to

We are so grateful that Dexter loves to read. He shares his love of reading with his siblings--including the littlest.
(Although, I think Harry Potter might be a bit above her level!!)

Cousins

Micah, Lizzie and Simon came to visit yesterday and Micah got this picture of the oldest and youngest cousins together.

Stakes? What Stakes?

So, Mason has this tent he got for Christmas. It has been put up for a long while but he asked to play with it the other day so we got it out. He was told to only play with it inside since the stakes are missing. Soon, inside lost its excitement, so he begged to take it out. Yes, that's fine, but be sure to bring it in with you when you come so nothing happens to it. Now, we all know he is 5, so did he bring it in? Needless to say, after dinner, we looked out, and no tent was to be seen. We looked and looked, to no avail until Lacy came out and saw this speck of something that might be blue almost 1/2 mile away. Sure enough, the wind had blown the tent across all the backyards. Lacy and Mason retrieved it and came back panting. Maybe Mason learned his lesson?
