Calling all Organizers...
Now that winter is here, we have the joy of the snow, sledding, snowfort building and... soggy boots, gloves, mittens, hats, scarves, coats, and snowpants!
Every year I seem to struggle with how to organize all these essential winter clothing items for 11 people! I thought I'd ask for advise this year to help me out. Here is my laundry room/utility room. This is where we come in and out of the house.
The door is to the left of the hanging coats:

The littles' coats are hung behind the door low so they can reach them. The bathroom door is to the left in this picture and the outside door is to the right:
Does anyone have any ideas? Any gagets or gizmos that might help? Right now, they hang their snowpants behind their coats and their boots go on the shelves. The mittens, gloves, hats and scarves are our biggest dilema. They just end up on the floor or in the rubbermaid container that they have to dig through each time they want to go outside.I can't wait to hear all your ideas!

I dunno, your systems looks pretty effective to me. :) I have no ideas for you, sorry. :)
It does look pretty good. I was reading "Real Simple". It was this great mud room. If you want, I can send you a copy of the article about organizing.

So, I pretty much think it looks a heck of a lot better than mine, but I can see how digging and hoping for nine matched pairs of gloves all stored in the same spot would be pretty daunting. Especially since we also have a basket-o-mittens at our house and can rarely find matched sets of the appropriate size for each of our three.
I have a friend who has a tower kind of thing with basket drawers that she used for hats & gloves in the winter. What about something like that? Maybe you could build cubbies on the wall even and just have several smaller spaces rather than one big one for the smaller items. Ooh! That same friend (she is the organization queen and totally rocks that world) when she would come to our house would always have her son tuck his mittens into his hat, and stuff his hat into the sleeve of his coat before hanging it up so nothing was ever lost or separated.
Just some thoughts! Good luck Bente!
